Host: First introduced two years ago. Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission claims nearly 10 million policies have now been sold, totaling close to NT$40billion

Host: In Taiwan, and some other south-east Asian countries.

Host: As case numbers rose so did policy claims, which cost firms a lot more than expected.

Host: Insurers underestimated the extent of the disease, and offered overly-generous payouts in an attempt to compete with rival firms
Voice: Who?
Host: The government stepped in after firms were found to be unfairly dismissing claims, cancelling policies or delaying payouts. Insurers have now been ordered to honor all legitimate Covid-related policies
