Now, please welcome your host, Chuck McSilver!

Chuck: Hello and welcome to another episode of Top of the Topics! The show where if you don’t know the news …

Audience: You Lose!

Chuck: Let’s meet today’s contestants: ladies and gentlemen, say hello to James and Jessie!

Chuck: Jessie, James, welcome to the show!

Both: Thanks Chuck!

Chuck: Jessie, good to see you again!

Jessie: Glad to be here, Chuck!

Chuck: And James, welcome to your first show! The first of many?

James: You bet!

Chuck: Let’s see! Come with me to Clever Corner and say hi to everyone’s favorite resident know-it-all, Sally Smartypants! Sally?

Sally: Thanks Chuck! Today’s Topic is: The Championships, Wimbledon!

Chuck: Tennis?! LOVE IT! … Jessie, James, I’ll give you a word, you give us a definition. First correct answer wins. Fingers on buzzers. Ready? … Word one: ‘Championship’ Jessie.

Jessie: It’s a contest to find the best player in the whole world!

Chuck: Correct! One point, Sally?

Sally: Officially titled ‘The Championships’, most people simply call this British-based grand slam tournament ‘Wimbledon’, after the south-west London town it calls home

Chuck: Word two: ‘Grand slam’ James.

James: A set of championships, all playing the same sport in the same year. Tennis has four grand slams globally

Chuck: Right! Someone knows their tennis!

James: There’s also the Australian Open, the US Open, and Roland Garros in France.

Chuck: Great commitment! But no more points I’m afraid … Sally?

Sally: Some famous Wimbledon traditions include only wearing white, eating strawberries and cream, and bowing to the British royal family! Also, uniquely, all matches are played on grass

Chuck: Word four: ‘Uniquely’ Jessie

Jessie: When something is unusual, special. One-of-a-kind

Chuck: Correct! Sally?

Sally: Because of the war in Ukraine, all Russian and Belarusian players have been banned from competing this year. ATP, The Association of Tennis Professionals, disagreed with this decision, and have removed their 2022 Wimbledon ranking points in protest.

Chuck: That sound means we’ve run out of time, Jessie wins with two points! Sorry James, great game! Give him a big hand, guys!

James: Thanks Chuck! It was so great to be here!

Chuck: Jessie, congratulations again! What’s she won, Sally?

Sally: Our exclusive Top of the Topics Trophy; a signed copy of Chuck’s best-selling autobiography, ‘Chuck-Point-Charlie’; and, of course, the chance to win even more great prizes next time!

Jessie:Wow! Thanks so much!!
