農曆七月--鬼月,那些可以說,又有那些不可以做?
Now, please welcome your host, Chuck McSilver!
Chuck: Hello and welcome to another episode of Top of the Topics! The show where if you don’t know the news …
Audience: You Lose!
Chuck: Let’s meet today’s contestants: ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Kay and Will!
Chuck: Kay, Will, welcome to the show!
Both: Thanks Chuck!
Chuck: Kay! Great win last week!
Kay: Totally … !
Chuck: And Will, welcome! “Will-come” … ! Haha!
Will: Good one, Chuck!
Chuck: Come on, gang! Let’s go to Clever Corner and say hi to everyone’s favorite resident know-it-all, Sally Smartypants! Sally?
Sally: Thanks Chuck! Today’s Topic is: Ghost Month
Chuck: Okie-dokie … Kay, Will, I’ll give you a word, you give us a definition. First correct answer wins. And we’re going straight over to clever corner for our first word. Sally!
Sally: Ghost Month: a time when the gates of hell are opened, and the dead walk among the living. It’s a festival for remembering all departed spirits, from friendly ancestors to forgotten ghosts
Chuck: Word one: ‘Ancestors’ Will.
Will: They’re your parents, or your great-grandparents, or your great-great-great grandparents! Anyone you’re descended from.
Chuck: So, who are the forgotten ghosts?
Will: People who died without any family or friends to remember them.
Chuck: Great knowledge, Will! One point. Sally?
Sally: A traditional Buddhist and Taoist festival, people all over Taiwan appease the spirits by going to temple, burning joss paper, and leaving out food and drink for all ghosts to enjoy
Chuck: Word two: ‘Appease’ Kay.
Kay: It’s a way of just, like, calming someone down by giving them everything they want.
Chuck: Correct! Sally?
Sally: To keep people safe from specters, this festival has a lot of do’s and don’ts!
Chuck: Uh-oh! That sound means we’ve run out of time, and we have a tie! You know what that means?! SUDDEN DEATH! Ok. One at a time, answer as fast as you can. Ready?
Both: Ready!
Chuck: We’ll start with you, Will. The question is: To keep you safe, what should you avoid during Ghost Month? Your time starts … now!
Will: Walking near walls!
Kay: Whistling!
Will: Wind chimes!
Kay: Picking up coins!
Will: Water sports!
Kay: Mirrors!
Will: Getting married!
Kay: Eating … carrots!
Chuck: Awww! That was the wrong answer! Which means it’s the end of the round. And that means, Kay, it’s time to say goodbye. Thanks for joining us!
Kay: Thank you, Chuck!
Chuck: Will, congratulations! See you next time?
Will: I can’t wait!
