Announcer: You’re listening to: Top of the Topics!
[中文]你有因為疫情而居家辦公工作嗎
Now, please welcome your host, Chuck McSilver!
Chuck: Hello and welcome to another episode of Top of the Topics! The show where if you don’t know the news …
Audience: You Lose!
Chuck: Let’s meet today’s contestants: ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Ben and Sherry!
Chuck: Ben, Sherry, welcome to the show!
Both: Thanks Chuck!
Chuck: Ben Ben Ben! Back again?
Ben: You know it!
Chuck: And Sherry! Follow the news much?
Sherry: Every day, Chuck!
Chuck: It’s time to put that to the test, with a trip to Clever Corner! Let’s welcome everyone’s favorite resident know-it-all, back from vacation, we missed her so much, it’s Sally Smartypants! Sally!
Sally: Awww! I missed you too, Chuck!
Chuck: How was your trip?!
Sally: Zany! We zig-zagged zealously over Zanzibar’s zenith in a zuchinni-shaped zeppelin!
Chuck: Sounds … er …
Sally: Let’s crack on. Today’s topic is: Work from home
Chuck: Superb! Ben, Sherry, I’ll give you a word, you give us a definition. First correct answer wins. Fingers on buzzers. Ready? … Word one: ‘Commute’ Sherry.
Sherry: It’s what I used to do every day! Travel into work
Chuck: Correct! Sherry, you work from home?
Sherry: Yep! Well, I actually do all my work at the library, but it means the same thing
Chuck: Lucky you! Sally, you think they’d let us try that?
Sally: This audience would never fit in my bungalow, Chuck! But it’d be fun to try … a recent survey by Stanford University followed 16,000 workers over 9 months, and found working from home both increased productivity and improved work satisfaction.
Chuck: Word two: ‘Productivity’ Ben
Ben: It’s a way of saying how well someone’s working. If they’re really productive, they’re doing great!
Chuck: Correct! One point each. Sally?
Sally: Some don’t think it’s so productive. Elon Musk, owner and CEO of Tesla, sent an email to all his employees telling them not to work from home. If they did, he threatened they’d lose their job!
Chuck: Word three: ‘Employees’ Sherry.
Sherry: People who work for someone else, for money!
Chuck: Correct! Two points! Sally?
Sally: Today, the internet really helps employees work from home. The trouble is, not everyone has a great connection. Some people can’t afford speedy wifi or pricey devices, so they have to commute.
Chuck: Uh-oh! That sound means we’ve run out of time, and Sherry’s our winner with three points!
Ben: Bravo Sherry!
Chuck: Good for you, Ben! Ben and Sherry, what a sweet combo!
